Professor Dr. Peter Bernholz, Professor Emeritus speaks on “Central Bank Policies and Government Reactions Around The Financial Crisis: Dangers And Possible Consequences”


Professor Dr. Peter Bernholz, Professor Emeritus, University of Basel, will give a lecture on “Central Bank Policies And Government Reactions Around The Financial Crisis: Dangers And Possible Consequences” at HKU on October 7 (Thursday) for the Egon Sohmen Memorial Lecture 2010.

In the lecture, Professor Bernholz will discuss how the policies of the central banks and the government reaction to the recent economic and financial crisis created dangers and possible consequences.

Professor Bernholz has been a full professor, and dean, of the Faculty of Philosophy and History at the University of Basel from 1971 until his retirement.

The Egon Sohmen Foundation was established in 1987 by Helmut Sohmen in memory of his late brother, an eminent economist who taught at MIT, Yale, etc.  The Foundation is a private non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion of economic research and public policy debates.  Since 1970, under the initial guidance of the late Professor Herbert Giersch in Germany, the Foundation has held international symposia, organized lectures and published a series of books on topics such as economic reforms in Central and Eastern Europe, reform of the welfare state, international migration, privatization, climate protection, globalization and unemployment.

Founded in 2001 with the amalgamation of the School of Business and the School of Economics and Finance, the Faculty of Business and Economics (FBE) is the youngest faculty in the University of Hong Kong (HKU).  FBE offers a full range of high quality degree programmes that serve different business and community needs.

瑞士巴賽爾大學 (University of Basel) 名譽教授Professor Dr. Peter Bernholz將於10月7日(星期四)在香港大學主講「金融風暴下中央銀行政策及政府措施所帶來之危機與後果」(Central Bank Policies and Government Reactions Around the Financial Crisis: Dangers and Possible Consequences)。

Professor Dr. Bernholz今次是應港大經濟金融學院及Egon Sohmen Foundation的邀請,出席作為Egon Sohmen Memorial Lecture 2010的主講嘉賓。Professor Dr. Bernholz將在講座與大家分享中央銀行採取之政策及政府措施於金融風暴下對未來所造成的影響。

Professor Dr. Bernholz於1971年至退休時於瑞士巴賽爾大學擔任教授並出任哲學及歷史系院長。

Egon Sohmen Foundation 於1987年由 Helmut Sohmen成立, 以紀念他已故的兄長。Egon Sohmen 為著名經濟學家並曾於麻省理工學院 、耶魯大學等任教。基金會為一個私人非牟利機構, 致力推動經濟研究及公共政策討論。在德國已故教授Herbert Gierschh的指引下,基金會自1970年以來舉辦了不少國際研討會及講座, 並出版了一系列的書籍, 題材包括歐洲中部及東部的經濟改革、福利國家的改革、及移居、私有化、氣候保護、全球化和失業等問題。
